The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation of a sexual assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, October 31, along State Route 3/Kings Highway in Stafford. To date, approximately 100 leads have been supplied by the public. Multiple detectives are actively investigating these leads. Other law enforcement agencies are also assisting with this investigation. Today the Crime Solvers reward was increased from $1000.00 to $2500.00.

We ask the public to look closely, again, at the composite drawing of the suspect and the photo of the shirt he left behind at the scene. Someone may have seen him on Sunday evening, October 30 or early Monday morning wearing the shirt

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the public to exercise caution and be aware of surroundings while traveling or stopped on dimly lit or lesser-traveled roadways. If you have to stop or become stranded, call the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number and report your location. The phone number is 540-658-4400 and is answered 24 hours a day. A deputy could then be dispatched, at your request.

The sheriff’s office tells us advertising company Lamar donated an electronic billboard located on Route 610, where information about the sex assault is being displayed and tips from the public are being solicited.

From Stafford sheriff’s spokeswoman MC Moncure:

“We have not used billboards as a direct appeal for suspect information before.  We have, however, used them on public service/community crime prevention campaigns.  Lamar allows us to use their board in the past, when they have space available. We have never paid for this – as it is a public service provided by Lamar.  The board went up Monday and will stay up as long as Lamar has the space available, or until we contact them.”
