Man charged with impersonating police officer

An 18-year-old Woodbridge man is charged with impersonating a police officer. 
 
According to police, the accused reported a shoplifter to Potomac Mills Mall security while impersonating a police officer. He was said to be wearing a radio with an earpiece, handcuffs, two replica handguns, and other items.

Impersonating a Police Officer – On May 10 at 5:20PM, officers responded to Potomac Mills Mall located at 2700 Potomac Mills Cir in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a suspicious person. Mall Security reported to police that a man, later identified as the accused, approached them to report a possible shoplifter. The accused identified himself as a Prince William County police officer and was wearing a radio with earpiece, handcuffs, two replica handguns, and other items. Officers located the accused and detained him without further incident. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested without incident.
