Bomb threat prompts evacuation of Manassas Mall, ‘secure building mode’ at schools

Police found no threat at Manassas Mall. They’re still looking into who made the call and caused today’s disruption.

The secure-the-building status has been lifted for Stonewall Jackson High School, Ellis Elementary School, and New Directions school. 

Police have not turned up anything in their search after a bomb threat was called into Manassas Mall this morning. The mall remains closed. 

11 a.m. 

A bomb threat was called into Manassas Mall this morning prompting the evacuation of the shopping center and a secure the building mode at several surrounding schools. 

Here’s the latest from Prince William police: 

*INCIDENT: Bomb Threat | Manassas Mall;
Officers are currently on scene investigating a reported bomb threat which was called into the Manassas Mall. The mall has been evacuated a precaution while a search is conducted. The public is asked to avoid the mall area at this time until the all clear is given.

Several Prince William County Public Schools near the mall were also evacuated placed into “secure the building” mode as a precaution. Here’s a statement from the school division: 

Stonewall Jackson HS, Ellis ES, and New Directions Alternative Center have implemented Secure the Building status due to police activity in the area. This is a precautionary measure, and all staff and students are safe. Entry is restricted. Updates will be provided. 

The bomb threat also impacted local bus service in the area, as noted by the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission:

Manassas Mall, which is the main transfer point for all PRTC services in the Manassas area, is being evacuated. All PRTC bus service to/from the mall is suspended at this time. This impacts Manassas Metro Direct, Manassas OmniLink, Manassas Park OmniLink and Cross County Connector buses.
