Prince William police officer attacked with pipe at Home Depot in Woodbridge

On the evening of June 19, Prince William police responded to the Home Depot location at Foulgers Square in Woodbridge to investigate a fight.

According to Prince William police, the victim – a 54-year old man – stated that the individual – 32-year old Woodbridge man Shazad Haq – began running towards the loading dock at the Home Depot in an aggressive way.

When Haq got closer to the victim’s location, he picked up a metal pipe and begin hitting doors, stated Prince William police. The victim yelled at Haq to stop, at which time Haq began to chase him.

Haq was able to catch the victim and began to strike him in the arm with the pipe, according to Prince William police. The victim has minor injuries from the assault.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were able to locate Haq in the parking lot of the Home Depot. According to Prince William police, when an officer exited his vehicle, Haq picked up two metal pipes and began swinging them in the air while yelling at the officer.

Prince William police said that the officer issued commands for Haq to drop the pipes and lay on the ground. Haq began to resist and became agitated when the officer attempted to put him in handcuffs.

During the altercation, Haq grabbed one of the pipes and struck and officer in the leg, stated Prince William police. After being detained by other officers, Haq became agitated again when being escorted to the police cruiser and grabbed an officer’s gun, said Prince William police.

Another struggle took place, and officers were finally able to place Haq in the vehicle. A supervisor for the officers arrived on scene to speak with Haq, and he spat towards him, said Prince William police.

Haq is being charged with one count of attempted malicious wounding, two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, one count of attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of obstruction of justice. He is being held without bond.
