Salvation Army provides food, clothing and rent assistance in Prince William

The Salvation Army is an organization known around the world for their charitable efforts. The local Prince William chapter of the Salvation Army works in the community, aiding several residents in need.

Potomac Local spoke with Captain George Hackbarth and his wife, who run the Prince William Salvation Army, about the work that they do in the community. 

PL: Who does your organization serve?
Hackbarth: We are a non-profit organization that serves all residents in need in Prince William County. We have chapters around the world that also provide assistance. 

PL: Why is your organization important to the community?
Hackbarth: We provide financial assistance, such as rent and utilities, to people who qualify. We also have a food pantry where people can get food items once a month. We provide backpacks and school supplies for kids in area schools, and we assist families during the holiday season with food and toys.

PL: What is the history of the organization?
Hackbarth: The Salvation Army began in 1865 in London, England and in 1880 in the United States. The work of the Salvation Army in Prince William County began in 1972.

PL: Where is your organization located?
Hackbarth: Our office is on 1483 Old Bridge Road, Suite 102 in Woodbridge.

PL: What is your annual budget?
Hackbarth: $500,000

PL: How can residents help your cause?
Hackbarth: People can help us in assisting people in need in the county by donating food to our food pantry and school supplies for our back to school drive. Monetary donations also help us to provide residents in need with rent and utilities assistance.

PL: What makes your organization different/unique?
Hackbarth: We help out any person who resides in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park in any way we can, as long as we have funding.
