SERVE to celebrate 40 years at dinner dance this Friday

The Northern Virginia Family Service, a nonprofit human services group in Northern Virginia, will be hosting a dinner dance in Manassas this Friday, to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of their SERVE program.

The SERVE program has provided necessities for Manassas and western Prince William County residents throughout the 40 years of the program. They offer “a safe place to sleep, their next meal, or perhaps a warm winter jacket,” according to a release.

“SERVE was founded by local churches who wanted to ensure that our neighbors’ needs were being met in a compassionate, professional and also fiscally responsible way,” says Pam Ryan, director of Anti-Hunger Programs at SERVE, in a release.

The event will take place at the Continental Events Center on Liberia Avenue in Manassas, and will include a buffet, silent auction and dancing and music.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate their many years of service in the county, as well as raise funds to help continue their work.

The Northern Virginia Family Service runs a SERVE program campus on Dean Drive in Manassas. This campus offers 92 beds for homeless families, as well as a food distribution center and an early Head Start classroom.

“Other programs located at the facility include health and dental access; counseling; workforce development assistance; homelessness prevention programs including emergency assistance for rent and utility payments and housing services; and the Healthy Families child abuse prevention program,” according to a release.

Tickets for the dinner dance to support SERVE will be available on their website and by contacting Pam Ryan at 571-748-2531.
