Last week at the Manassas City Council meeting, two members of Manassas Fire & Rescue were promoted, and Mayor Parrish swore in a new member to the Department.
Master Technician Amos Akers and Master Technician Robert Bettis were the two firefighters promoted at the ceremony.
Before joining Manassas Fire & Rescue, Akers worked as a firefighter and EMT in the City of Manassas, a firefighter for Loudoun County Fire & Rescue and a volunteer firefighter with the Manassas Volunteer Fire Company.
Bettis began his career as a volunteer in Frederick County Fire & Rescue, also working at the Martinsburg Fire Department before coming to Manassas as a firefighter and EMT.
Andrew Murray became the newest member sworn into Manassas Fire & Rescue. He joined the Department in September 2014. Murray attended the EMS program at Northern Virginia Community College while volunteering with the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department as an EMT. Murray also worked with the City of Roanoke Fire-EMS Department before beginning his training in Manassas.
Akers stated that he was happy to continue serving Manassas at the Fire & Rescue Department.
“The City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department feels more like a family. It’s a unique combination of volunteer and paid staff who have a great report. We are a close-knit group,” Akers said.
