· Good morning – Happy Halloween, but just as important is Happy Thanksgiving to hundreds of families in our community. SERVE in Manassas needs your help with Operation Turkey!
You can help several ways – first of all gather your friends, family and businesses to collect food items that can be dropped off on Saturday November 8th from 10am-2pm, Thursday November 13th and Friday November 14th from 10am-5pm at the Manassas Adventist Prep School on Barrett Drive in Manassas.
Then volunteers are needed on Sunday November 16th to bring any surplus food back to the pantry. This is a super job for teens age 16+ and any of us doing a little weight lifting. There are two shifts – 12pm-3pm and 3pm-6pm. Please email Jan at [email protected] to help her on the 16th.
· SERVE also has an urgent need for new bed pillows for the residents of the family shelter. Please drop them off at the admin building at 100056 Dean Drive in Manassas anytime during traditional business hours.
· The Greater Prince William Food Council would love to know how all of our many small food pantries in churches and basements and such are doing. Kindness abounds in our community – please take a moment to fill out a quick survey if you are helping families with food needs. · Ho, Ho, Ho – Christmas is right around the corner and we are in full swing with our Un Trim A Tree Holiday Gift Program for needy kids. If you would like to sponsor a child at Christmas I can provide you their name, age and two toy wishes so you can be a special Santa to a kid. · Area Agency on Aging is looking for a volunteer to teach a beginner’s Spanish class one day a week on either on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for an hour or so in the middle of the day at the Manassas Senior Center. The Montgomery County Women’s Chorus will present a concert to benefit the Betty Ann Krahnke shelter for survivors of domestic violence. 100% of ticket sales (less any online processing fees) will go to the shelter.
