In memoriam: Margaret Toliver “Peggy” Gronau

After spending many happy, final days among her beloved family, Margaret Toliver “Peggy” Gronau, traveled home on August 3, in time for her mother’s birthday, to join in heaven with those she has missed to greatly.

A devoted Marine Corps wife of 63 years, realtor, and mother of three, Peggy, born May 9, 1924, in Fredericksburg, was widely known and loved in her home town. A resident of Fredericksburg and Locust Grove, she lived a rich and full life with family and friends ever close. Although family was her greatest joy and treasure, she will be remembered by many for her generosity, her zest for winning, be it bridge, pinochle, bowling, or golf, and her great jitterbug.

Peggy is survived by her son, Timber and his wife, Angie; daughter Caroline Gronau Caldwell and her husband, Larry; sisters Shirley Ferris and Connie Heim; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her loyal dog, Buzzy. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Gronau; daugher Colleen Gronau; and brother Allen “Sug” Grimes.

A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
