Lake Ridge RidgeRunners Membership on the Rise

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Community running group the Lake Ridge RidgeRunners has had a “nebulous existence” since the 1970s, according to their website, but in recent years has seen a surge in membership under the leadership of volunteer president and avid runner, Stephanie Dupal-Demartin.

In addition to weekly runs and walks, the club also hosts a popular “May Day 5K” race, and a yearly “Record Breaking Run and Walk” to encourage people to come out and try the club.

“Our previous record, 74, had been inadvertently broken during our Walk for Boston”, shared Dupal-Demartin, however, the record was shattered again on Tuesday night as 146 participants came out to walk or run in Lake Ridge for a 2-4 mile loop, depending on fitness level and ability,” said Dupal-Martin.

As part of the event, the RidgeRunners try to include plenty of information and freebies for runners and walkers. The event is sponsored by VA Runner, Asics, Saucony, and Max Muscle, and Fit 4 Mom PWC, Shaklee, and several personal trainers were also in attendance to help both advanced and aspiring runners alike.

The RidgeRunners meet at various times throughout the week and weekend. Runners and walkers are both welcome, and distance can be tailored to fit personal goals within a fun, group setting.

Membership fees, which are not necessary to come try the group, begin at $15 for Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association (LRPRA) residents or $20 for non-LRPRA members, and cover a year’s affiliation with the group. Find more, including the run schedule on their website.
