Manassas Railway Fest, Occoquan Craft Show Top Area Event Calendars

052211 Around TownIt’s Saturday June 1, 2013, and there are a lot of events happening in our area today to ring in the second unofficial weekend of summer.

Here’s a few hand selected events from Potomac Local News:

Manassas Railway Heritage Festival

Head to Old Town Manassas this today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to see trains and ride trains, see farm equipment, vendors, and live family-friendly entertainment. Admission to the festival is free, and a train ride on a Virginia Railway Express Trail will cost you $5.

Occoquan’s Annual Spring Craft Show

One of two major craft shows in the tiny Town of Occoquan, this annual two-day event draws thousands to the region to see handmade quilts, woodworking, to special locally made foods. The Coffee of House Occoquan also plans to have live music, and the independently owned small shops and restaurants in the town will have plenty to do and see.

Parking is limited, so be sure to check out their website for nearby commuter lots to park in and where to pick up a free shuttle bus to the event.

The show runs today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 am. to 5 p.m. 

Yard Sale

According to the Potomac Local News Yard Sale Map, the best little yard sale in Prince William County is happening in the Manassas area at 10517 Trinidad Court. It started at 6 a.m., so hurry out there if you still want to grab some great items.

You can also list your Yard Sale on the map for next weekend.

Dumfries Farmer’s Market

Fresh veggies, friuts, and and lots of fun can be had at Dumfries’ farmers market today and each Saturday this summer from 8 a.m. until noon. Come out and taste Virginia Grown.

Buckhall United Methodist Church Day of Service

Buckhall United Methodist Church will host its Day of Service this Saturday today, 9 a.m.. to 4 p.m. The whole community is invited to come together to make the world – or at least Manassas and Prince William County – a better place.

This is a terrific opportunity for last-minute community service hours for students, organizers said. There will be a whole range of projects to choose from:

— Make 500 sandwiches, for SERVE and Rising Hope shelters

— Assemble birthing kits to be sent to developing countries, decreasing the odds of infection

— Clean up Moore Drive and Signal Hill Road, through the Adopt-a-Highway program

— Repair and clean local homes, through Project Mend-A-House

— Collect batteries to be recycled

Projects will take begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m. Many hands make light work, and much good can be accomplished in four hours!

Summer begins at Stonebridge

Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center is ready to help you welcome summertime today at their annual Spring into Summer festival. Join them in Woodbridge at 14900 at Potomac Town Place for food tastings, a fashion show, live bands, family fun, and special store discounts.

Comedy show at Workhouse Arts Center

End the day with some laughs at the Cecil Ray Comedy Club tonight at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. This christian comedy show features the talents of comedian Grayson from Lafayette, La., Pittsburgh’s finest Miss Clareese, comedian Kadesha from Alexandria, Va., local newcomer comedian Coco-Nut.

The doors to the event open at 6:30 p.m. at the W-3 Threater at the Workhouse Campus. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $30 for VIP seating.
