STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – A canoe overturned on the Rappahannock River at 12:40 p.m. Saturday, and Stafford County fire and rescue crews sprang into action to help rescue its occupants.
Crews responded to the 400 block of Riverside Drive in Fredericksburg just across the Rappahannock River from Stafford County where the canoe flipped. An adult male and young female signaled to rescue crews that they were OK, but said they needed help, said Stafford fire and rescue Asst. Chief Mark Doyle.
With the flipped canoe lodged against a rock, rescue swimmers from the Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department entered the water, reached the victims, and pulled them shore. Once back to shore, uninjured, the male and female were thorough check out by EMS staff and both declined to be taken to a hospital, said Doyle.
