Grant to Fund Cell Phone Tours of Bristoe Station Battlefield

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – Soon you’ll be able to pull out your cell phone and take a guided tour of Bristoe Station Battlefield.

Prince William County leaders are expected to approve $1,500 in funds to be used to match a state grant that, when complete, will provide $3,000 for implementing a cell phone tour of the site where Gen. Stonewall Jackson raided federal supplies during the Battle of Kettle Run, and 1,750 people lost their lives.

“This program will offer another way for people to experience our rich Civil War history in Prince William County, and, if you think about it, you don’t even have to be at the park to learn about what happened at Bristoe Station,” said Discover Prince William / Manassas Director Anne Marie Maher.

Whether driving or walking, the tour will allow users to visit places in Prince William County that are associated with the Battlefield, like Greenwich, Bristoe Station, and Buckland, county documents state. Additionally, the tour will also have information on nearby attractions like restaurants and lodging.

The cell phone tour is expected to be in place by October, just in time for the 150th Anniversary of the battle at Bristoe Station, said Maher.

The plan to appropriate the cash for the tour sits on the consent agenda for today’s Prince William County’s Board of Supervisors meeting, and it’s expected to be approved there.
