MANASSAS, Va. — A dog was found dead in a trashcan, it’s mouth and feet each bound with duct tape.
A second dog was found injured alongside a street was taken to an area veterinarian for treatment, and now a Manassas area man faces a string of charges.
At 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, a homeowner in the 7500 block of Quail Run Lane near Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas came home to find her sliding rear basement door unlocked, and she then noticed both of her dogs – a female and male West Highland Terrier – were missing from the home. The woman then found blood throughout her home and then called police, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
Police learned the dogs had been taken from the house by the victim’s on again, off again boyfriend. Later, the victim got a call from an area vet who stated her male dog was found injured on the side of a road and was brought there for treatment. Police learned that dog had gotten out of its restraints, starting moving around in the trunk of the suspect’s car, and then was let out of the car by the suspect on Thoroughfare Road near Haymarket where it was picked up by a passerby, said Perok.
The female dog was found bound and dead in a trashcan by a resident on Copeland Drive near the victim’s home, said Perok.
Police on Monday searched the home of the suspect at 7567 Quail Run Lane in Manassas, a separate home form there the victim lives with her dogs, where evidence from this incident turned up, said Perok.
Khanh Hoang Hong, 44, is charged with burglary, animal cruelty, and with two counts of grand larceny, said Perok. He is due in a Prince William County courtroom June 13.
