Power Crews Headed North to Assist in Monster Blizzard

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A monster blizzard bearing down on the Northeast has got the attention of power crews in Virginia.

Dominion Virginia Power is sending crews from the state, as well as from their operations in North Carolina, to render help to those expected to be impacted by high winds and snowfall up to three feet between New York City and Boston.

Convoys of power crews, bucket trucks, and other utility vehicles, could be seen traveling north along Interstate 95 in Prince William and Stafford counties.

More about the storm and what Dominion is doing in a press release:

Dominion Virginia and North Carolina Power crews headed north Friday morning to help as a massive winter storm is expected to slam the northeast. The storm is poised to dump up to three feet of snow from New York City to Boston and beyond beginning Friday.

Dominion’s Bonita Harris explained: “We have about 60 employees going up to Morristown, New Jersey… answering the call for mutual assistance. When we need crews from out of town if our area is hit the hardest they will come and help us, and if there’s another area that’s hit hard, we will go and help them. Of course we always take care of home first.”

That area was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy earlier this year. Crews are preparing for a two week deployment. View photos and follow the latest on Dominion Virginia Power Facebook.
