Remaining Civil War Events Canceled

MANASSAS, Va. — Thunderstorms that crept into the region today are to blame for the cancelation of the remaining Civil War sesquicentennial events in Manassas.

An ice cream social and concert at the city’s Loy Harris Pavilion, a commemoration of a Stonewall Jackson’s raid on a railroad junction, barbeque, and a special presentation by the National Park Service at on the lawn of the Manassas Museum were all called off.

The cancelations come after as two full day of activities were planned to honor the Second Battle of Manassas, which took place 150 years ago. Revelers on Saturday filled the city’s streets for as re-enactors paraded past small businesses and a street festival.

Last year, thousands came to Manassas and Prince William County to mark the 150th anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas at Bull Run.

Showers are expected to remain in the area through tomorrow.
