DALE CITY, Va. — Water and sewer rates could be going up for customers in eastern Prince William County.
Virginia American Water wants to raise rates by 15.9 percent for customers in the state. Customers in Prince William County could be hit hard by the increase, as the utility wants to raise rates in the portion of the county it serves by nearly 25 percent, according to a press release from the Prince William County government.
“The Board of County Supervisors opposes this rate increase and encourages all affected residents to voice their opposition, as they had great success last year when VAW attempted to substantially increase their rates,” the press release states.
Customers who would be affected live in the Dale City area, and those residents are also urged to share their concerns with thier county supervisors Marty Nohe and John Jenkins.
The utility has set a public hearing on the proposed rate increase in Richmond on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m., in the State Corporation Commission’s Tyler Building, at 1300 East Main Street.
Residents who wish to participate in the public hearing but cannot attend the meeting can also submit comments online.
