Smoke Forces 3 from Home

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — On Wednesday, March 7 at  9 a.m., fire and rescue units responded to a structure fire in a two-story single family home located in the 7200 block of Ridgeway Drive in Woodbridge.

Fire and rescue units, upon arrival, observed smoke from the front of the home and upon entry discovered a fire in the wall behind the fireplace that extended into the attic. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Three adults were home when the fire occurred. Smoke alarms were present and active; however, prior to activation, one resident smelled smoke and proceeded to investigate. He discovered smoke in the house and alerted the other two sleeping residents enabling everyone to safely evacuate the home. Once everyone was safely out of the home, he called 911.

No injuries were reported.

County police assisted with on scene management.

An investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office determined the origin of the fire was the fireplace and the cause of the fire as accidental.

Preliminary damages are estimated at $10,000.
