Lake Ridge, Va. — An area healthcare provider is expanding their footprint and will soon open a new 24-hour medical facility in Lake Ridge.

Sentara Lake Ridge will open its doors near the intersection of Old Bridge and Minnieville roads by the middle of next month.

The center – Sentara’s Healthcare’s first outpatient care center in Northern Virginia – will offer emergency medical services, advanced imaging services such as CT scans, and lab services. A second floor will host physicians’ offices.

Dr. Mary Ann McLaurin will head the new center.

“I’m thrilled to be the medical director at Sentara Lake Ridge,” said McLaurin in a blog post. “Residents will be able to get the care they need, close to home, without the obstacles that are present in hospital emergency rooms.”

McLaurin began working at Sentara Potomac Hospital’s emergency room, the Irene V. Hylton Emergency Care Center, in 1989 and became it’s vice chair in 2000.

Ambulances will not bring patients directly to the medical center as they do at Potomac Hospital, but medical transportation will be made available, according to Sentara officials.

Sentara acquired Potomac Hospital late last decade. Opened in 1972, Potomac Hospital was the first civilian hospital between Alexandria and Fredericksburg.
