Woodbridge, Va. — The iconic sign that tells drivers when they’ve reached one of the largest shopping destinations in Virginia is going back up.
Potomac Mills mall on Monday will erect a new sign 150 feet into the air where it will be seen along Interstate 95. The sign is circular, is 40-feet in diameter, and was shipped to Woodbridge from Richmond in 10 sections, said Capitol Signs spokesman Joe Howell.
Some of the letters on the sign are still being shipped to Woodbridge and will be attached when the sign is raised. The sign erection is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Monday and should take a week to complete, said Howell.
In February, the same high winds that helped to spread brush fires across the region also blew a portion of the sign down. Days later the remaining portion of the sign fell.
Potomac Mills mall opened in 1985 and has been routinely ranked as one of the area’s largest tourist attractions.
