Gingerbread House Party Planned

By Kristina Schnack Kotlus

Woodbridge, Va. — Leesylvania State Park is hosting a Gingerbread House Party to benefit a non-profit that works to provide toys to children with cancer.

The event will take place on Saturday, December 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those attending the Gingerbread House Party are asked to pay only in the form of a new toy for the “Trevor’s Treasure” box.

“Trevor’s Treasures” was founded by 10 year old Trevor Blake who, when diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma at age 5, decided that when he recovered he’d come back to the cancer ward to make other children feel better. Trevor’s dream was to visit other children battling cancer with a treasure box of toys they could choose from.

New packaged toys that can be wiped down before entering the Pediatric Oncology ward are preferred, according to the Leesylvania Park listing for this event. Stuffed animals are unable to be used as toys for children with compromised immune systems, and should not be brought for this event.
