Brush Fires Spark along Joplin Road

Fire crews report blaze has been contained.  

Dumfries, Va. — Several small fires have sparked along Joplin Road in the area of the entrance to Prince William Forest Park.

Fire crews were called to the area about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a tree that fell onto a power line, which subsequently sparked a blaze in the surrounding wooded area, according to initial reports.

There are no reports of any injuries, however, police closed a portion of Joplin Road between area near the park entrance and Aden Road, near the Prince William Count y Public Schools Administration building.

Reports indicate at least one of the fires was moving into the National Park.

Joplin Road was closed to traffic near the entrance of Prince William Forest Park while fire fighters worked to contain a fire that started from a downed power line further up the road. (Mary Davidson/PotomacLocal.com)
