911 Caller Leads Cops to Bank Robbery Suspect

Falmouth, Va. — A quick-thinking resident is being praised for helping police nab a suspected bank robber.

A man walked into Union Bank on Cambridge Street (U.S. 1) in Falmouth at 11:39 a.m. Monday, gave a teller a note that he demanded cash and that he had a gun. No gun was displayed, but the suspect got an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the bank.

Stafford sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, got the story from witnesses, and began searching the area for suspect, said sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

But within minutes, a nearby resident called 911 to report a suspicious person in a wooded area between Forbes Street and Layhill Road near the bank.

Deputies swooped in and made an arrest, said Kennedy.

The caller was unaware that a bank robbery had occurred when the 911 call was made, he added.

Eric Robert Greene, 31, of 7 Rosewood Street in Fredericksburg, is charged with robbery and grand larceny, said Kennedy.

He was held without bond and no one was injured during the robbery.
