Woodbridge, Va. — All week long Virginia State Parks have offered free parking to celebrate their 75th Anniversary. This weekend, Leesylvania State Park will hold several activities to honor the mile stone.
Virginia State Park’s 75th Anniversary Celebration
Date: Saturday, June 18, 2011
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center and Breakwater Marina StoreDescription: Come out and enjoy Virginia State Parks’ 75th birthday celebration. Stop by the Visitor Center to learn about the history of Leesylvania and the park system as a whole. And enjoy games and activities at the Breakwater Marina store starting at 2 p.m. Wish Virginia State Parks a happy birthday and eat free cake. The cake will be cut at 2 p.m. at the marina store.
Be sure to visit the Virginia Lottery mobile. Even better, parking is free.
Powell’s Creek Hike
Date: Sunday, June 19, 2011
Time: 2 sessions – 11 a.m. to noon and 3 to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Powell’s Creek TrailheadDescription: Join a ranger for a walk through the woods. You’ll get to see wetlands, learn how the forest is involved in the water cycle, and hike to a beautiful overlook of the creek. Meet at the Powell’s Creek Trailhead.
Father’s Day Canoe Tour
Date: Sunday, June 19, 2011
Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Register at the Visitor Center and then meet at Canoe LaunchDescription: Join a ranger for a guided canoe tour on Powell’s Creek. You’ll get to see wildlife, marsh plants, and test your skills in a canoe. Please register with the Visitor Center before the tour. Fee is $9 per person, or $6 er person when reserving for groups of four or more.
