Stafford County, Va. –– Lightning sparked a fire that injured two firefighters early this morning in the Rockhill district.
Crews were called at 12:58 a.m. to 667 Rockhill Church Road, near Willowmere Park, for a report of a fire at a split-level single family home.
When they arrived, crews saw flames shooting through the roof the home and then began their attack, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.
Firefighters searched the home for victims but found no one inside.
An unstable roof and the massive amount of flames forced fire crews to exit the burning house and mount their attack from the outside.
During the blaze, debris fell on two firefighters causing injury. Both were taken to a Stafford Hospital Center, treated and released, said Doyle.
Damage to the home was estimated at $195,000.
Correction: The house fire occurred near Willomere Park,, and not Stafford Regional Airport. The call for the fire was received at 12:58 a.m.
