Street side Prophet: It’s the End of Days

Jim Hyland believes the end of the world will come sooner than later.

Word of the end for the world came to Woodbridge on Tuesday afternoon.

Jim Hyland took his 5 foot by 3 foot banner, tied one side of it to a light post at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Opitz Boulevard, and then let everyone know he thinks the the beginning of the end of the world starts next month.

“I get a lot of waves and honks, and sometimes I get the middle finger from some people who don’t like my being out here. Most people don’t like to think about the judgment day,” said Hyland, who lives in Manassas.

With his banner that notes May 21 is when judgment day begins, Hyland has silently stood on street corners in Stafford, Prince William and Fairfax counties in order to spread his message.

He doesn’t belong to a church, as he says “the days of churchgoing are over,” is quick to hand out a leaflet about his beliefs.

Not far from other predictions about the end of the world, the leaflet states the five-month judgment period will begin next month and will last until October. Then its whoops, party’s over, sorry, out of time.

There’s no mention in the flier as to what will happen if Hyland’s beliefs are wrong.

Hyland says he’s never been harassed by police while standing on the street corners and he’d like to keep it that way.
