Potomac Health Foundation to Award Grants

Woodbridge, Va. –– The newest health association in Virginia is offering up to $3 million for organizations that want to improve healthcare in the Potomac Communities.

The Potomac Health Foundation has announced its kickoff event from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hylton Education Center at Sentara Potomac Hospital in Wooddbridge.

Independent from the hospital it shares its name with, the newly-founded organization has invited members of non-profit organizations to the event to learn how they can apply for grant funding. Some public sector companies will also be considered for grant funding.

“We wanted to keep our footprint with the original footprint served by Potomac Hospital, which is Lorton, eastern Prince William County and Garrisonville in the North Stafford area,” said Potomac Health Foundation Interim Director Stephen V. Batsche.

The foundation has been in the works for the past two years, and comes after Potomac Hospital merged with Sentara Healthcare in 2009.

The foundation hired three people to manage the daily operations of the foundation.

Batsche had served as the president of the Rapphannock United Way. Also hired as the director of grant operations, Sheri Gonzales Warren, was formerly Country Director Mozambique with Samaritan’s Purse.

Phim Gilberry was hired as an administrative assistant, and comes to the organization from Potomac Hospital where she worked as the events coordinator.

Collectively, Batsche and Warren have 21 years of experience with grants.
