A free community resource, the PotomacLocal.com’s calendar contains great ideas to keep you busy right where you live.

Saturday marks the beginning of the National Cherry Blossom festivities in Washington.

But you don’t have to drive into the city to celebrate!

Gunston Hall offers their own Kite Festival on Saturday from noon until 5 p.m., and will have kites and picnic lunches available for sale.  There will also be puppet shows, fire trucks, period games, and more.

If you’d rather spend the day indoors, test your luck at the Lake Jackson Fire Department’s SUPER Bingo from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Children are also welcome at this event which features a $25,000 progressive jackpot grand prize!

Sunday, the Manassas Symphony Orchestra will continue their presentation of “Mardi Gras” at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.  Various show times are available, and purchasing advance tickets online is encouraged to avoid lines at the box office.

Also on Sunday in Lorton, Fairfax County residents may take advantage of “Electric Sunday” to recycle televisions, computers, monitors, printers, scanners, mice, and more.  Unbroken lightbulbs, both tube florescent and standard in-home bulbs, may also be returned at these events.
