Stafford sheriff to chair Va. criminal justice board

Stafford, Va. –– Stafford County’s sheriff just got a nod and a new job from Virginia’s governor.

County officials announced Friday that Stafford Sheriff Charles E. Jett would serve a four-year term as Chairman of Virginia’s Criminal Justice Services Board.

“Charlie Jett is a long time friend and colleague.  He is a recognized leader in law enforcement who knows the importance of a balanced approach to public safety,” said McDonnell in a press release.

Jett will continue to serve as sheriff in addition to his new responsibilities.

The announcement comes after Jett had just completed his term as president of the Virginia Sherriff’s Association.

Jett has served as Sheriff in Stafford County since 2000, and has worked with the department for more than 32 years, working as commander of field operations.

As sheriff, he supervises 244 members of the department, and he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

The state’s criminal justice services board represents all aspects of the criminal justice system in Virginia, and working with the public, local government officials, the Virginia General Assembly and members of the private security industry.
