At midnight Friday, the High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes between Dumfries and Washington will close, and then reopen at 3 a.m. Monday April 18.

Update 4:50 p.m.: Police cite more commuters than they did Monday
North Stafford, Va. –– Commuters were warned, now today Virginia State Police begin ticketing drivers who park illegally park at two commuter lots in North Stafford.

Area transit services will operate on a normal schedule if there is a shutdown of the federal government on Monday.
Virginia Railway Express says 35 percent of its riders are not federal employees and will continue to run trains on a regular schedule.
A Virginia State Police trooper pulled over a driver along Interstate 95 northbound at mile post 156 in Dale City, about 2:25 p.m. During the stop, another state trooper with a canine pulled up to assist in the traffic stop when a crash happened.
Another driver plowed into both state police cars stopped on the roadside and then ran off of the road into the shoulder of the highway. The driver and child inside of the car were taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Virginia State Police spokesman Corinne Geller.
Florida’s high speed rail loss will not be Virginia’s gain.
Florida rejected $2.4 billion in federal money to build a high speed rail line between Orlando and Tampa. Prior to being awarded the money, Virginia under Gov. Timothy M. Kaine applied for $1.8 billion in available federal money to fund the creation of a high speed rail corridor between Richmond and Washington.

Stafford, Va. — The county’s Board of Supervisors has before them today a proposal to include Va. 630, between Red Oak Drive and Stafford Avenue into the Courthouse Streetscape Improvement Project.
The fire was reported just after 3 p.m., at mile post 142, south of Garrisonville Road (Va. 610).
Fire crews on the scene reported a fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle, and quickly worked to douse the blaze, according to initial reports.
