If you’re standing up on a VRE train, you’d better be ready to get off the train.
VRE CEO Dale Zehner stated in an email to riders on Friday riders should only stand, or queue, as trains are pulling into stations. If riders are standing, it must mean they want to get off the train, or detrain, stated Zehner.

Just days after Gov. Robert F. McDonnell passed historic legislation to address transportation improvements, localities are getting a better look at what improvements could be expected over the next six years.
The draft-six year plan was released so residents can review all of the projects, many of which will paid for by a portion of the $4 billion McDonnell passed in his budget.

Stafford County, Va. –– Virginia Railway Express wants to expand two parking lots at stations in Stafford County.

Included the entire bill was $300 million, and only a portion of the money will be used for road widening. But the move comes in advance of the military’s Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC, which is expected to move 20,000 new federal, military and civilian jobs to the base.
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11) says the money will be a much-needed boost to help ready the region for the influx of BRAC employees.

Steel girders were supposed to lifted into place beginning tonight near the military base to lay the groundwork for the future expansion of the four-lane highway.

The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission announced a new afternoon shuttle bus service between the popular Horner Road commuter lot at Interstate 95 and the lot at the First Baptist Church of Woodbridge at Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road.
Beginning May 2, commuters who take a later bus or carpool home from work will be able to catch one of three shuttles from the Horner Road lot back to the church lot.
In a report from VRE Chief Dale Zehner, the owner of VRE’s Fredericksburg line, CSX, has approved a plan to allow the system to let a train return to the Broad Run storage yard after it makes its final morning stop at Union Station in Washington.
Because the turn-around train can now be stored at Broad Run and not at Union Station as it has been that will allow the commuter railroad to add more cars to other trains and store them at Union Station prior to the afternoon rush hour.
