It’s going to cost truck drivers more to get towed in Stafford County.
The Board of Supervisors increased the fees towing companies that are allowed to charge when the hook up a medium-sized or large size truck.
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) has added a new round trip option to its Fredericksburg Line to support social distancing effective Monday, July 27.
“We are closely monitoring ridership on both the Fredericksburg and Manassas lines and will adjust service as the number of passengers grows,” said Rich Dalton, VRE’s acting CEO. “We have seen enough of an increase on our Fredericksburg Line to warrant an additional round trip. These two new trains, along with other measures, will allow us to continue to protect the health and safety of our passengers and train crews.”
Virginia State Police have invited local residents to take part in a free motorcycle self-assessment, “Ride 2 Save Lives,” course this Saturday.
It is a free course that will be held Saturday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Morton’s BMW Motorcycles located at 5099 Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg. Space is limited to 30 people.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors approved the $142 million Balls Ford Interchange Project that is expected to help relieve traffic congestion.
Construction will begin this fall and is expected to be completed in November 2022.
Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) has announced the launch of an app called RouteShout 2.0 that helps riders track their buses, be alerted of changes, and cut down on wait times at bus stops.
According to a Fredericksburg press release, the RouteShout 2.0 app can be downloaded on iPhone and Android devices at no cost from the Apple Store or Google Play.
Keolis will begin operating the OmniRide service on Nov. 1, 2020, and has already begun changeover activities to ensure a smooth transition that will be invisible to riders. The first year of the contract is worth $24,629,187 with a start-up cost of $740,523.
Keolis provides mobility services to millions of passengers in the United States. Keolis carries over 100 million passengers each year on local, commuter, paratransit, and commuter rail services in 12 cities. This includes the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter rail service, which PRTC co-sponsors with the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) announced via a press release that it will terminate its VQ1 route bus effective on August 17.
This route was an express feeder bus system for those traveling from Stafford up to the Quantico VRE station.
The Fredericksburg City Council will petition the Virginia General Assembly to remove the name of Jefferson Davis Highway from the U.S. Route 1 statewide.
The council made their decision in a 6-1 vote at its online meeting Tuesday night to present their petition to the Virginia General Assembly at their August special session.
