Fredericksburg’s transportation officials will work in conjunction with the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority to improve passenger train experience in Fredericksburg City and Stafford and Spotsylvania counties.
The Passenger Rail Authority was established earlier this year has been tasked with promoting, sustaining, and expanding passenger and commuter rail service availability in Virginia. It will also own all the new tracks meant for passenger rail in Virginia, including the third rail that will run from Union Station in Washington D.C. to Spotsylvania County.
Planners are looking to spend $5 million to improve traffic flow outside of Spotsylvania Towne Center.
The Virginia Department of Transportation says the proposed project will enhance capacity and improve traffic flow by eliminating the right turn lane bump-out areas along Route 3 westbound between Route 639 (Bragg Road), at Mission Barbecue, and Salem Church Road Eliminating these areas will allow this travel lane to be used by through traffic and by traffic turning right.

A 20-year-old Prince William County man has died after a crash involving a tractor trailer.
On Monday, December 21 at 7:33 a.m. , officers responded to the 3600 block of Sanders Lane in Catharpin to investigate a two-vehicle crash.

A truck struck the Accokeek Creek bridge rail on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 17, and crews started an emergency repair early this morning, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
