Route 1 paving in Woodbridge begins today

Route 1 at Occoquan Road in. Woodbridge.

Starting today through Friday, October 23, paving for the Route 1 widening project will take place between Marumsco Creek and Annapolis Way in Woodbridge. The paving will occur on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day as weather permits.

The paving will include the through lanes of northbound and southbound Route 1, as well as turn lanes. Paving on Occoquan Road, Route 123 (Gordon Boulevard) and Annapolis Way at their intersections with Route 1 will occur after the Route 1 mainline paving is completed.

NOVA plans mostly virtual classes for spring

Most Northern Virginia Community College students will not be returning to campus for the spring semester.

In a statement released by the school’s president, Anne M. Kress, it was announced that the college’s spring semester would be conducted mostly remotely due to the fact that the pandemic has “not appreciably changed.” This decision will also apply to most of the college’s instructors, who will remain in a temporary telework status until being able to return to campus.

Route 1 name change could cost $3.4 million, vote expected Tuesday

Prince William County leaders are moving forward with an effort to rename Jefferson Davis Highway.

The Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, will hear details of a plan that would rename 12 miles of the four and six-lane highway, between Stafford and Fairfax county lines, Richmond Highway.

2 boaters rescued from Neabsco Creek in Woodbridge

Two boaters were plucked from the Neabsco Creek early Saturday morning, Aug. 22, 2020.

Rescue boats were dispatched at 12:29 a.m. for a disabled boat near a railroad bridge that carries Virginia Railway Express, Amtrak, and freight trains over the Neabcsco Creek, near Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge.

Seeking cheaper Woodbridge interchange design, leaders launch study

It’s back to the drawing board for the long talked about interchange at Routes and 123 in Woodbridge.

Prince William County’s Department of Transportation is conducting a “Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions” study, also known as the STARS, to identify new, cost-effective designs for an interchange that would untangle traffic in the busy intersection, as well as provide easy access to the nearby Belmont Bay neighborhood and Virginia Railway Express commuter rail station.
