Shapiro was taken into custody about 2 p.m. by authorities in Spotsylvania County.
It wasn’t the amount of money they had hoped to raise for two children who’ve lost both biological parents and have a dream of going to college, but organizers say the experience was worth it.
A fundraiser was held last night at the K2 Restaurant and Lounge in Woodbridge for two high school students, Kevin, 14, and Christie, 16, who recently lost their mother to skin cancer. The children also lost their biological father to a heart attack when they were younger, family friends said.

Prince William County Police say they have identified the man they put a look out for last week – the same man two girls, whose ages were not released, drove up to their separate schools bus stops on Graham Park Road Feb 14. and asked them if they wanted a ride.
The two girls are students at Graham Park Middle School.

Kevin, 14, in 9th grade and his sister, Christie, 16, in 11th grade, are both students at Pope John Paul the Great High School in Dumfries.
A groundbreaking for the new 84,000 square-foot building will be held at 10 a.m. March 18.
Plans for the new center boast eight computer laboratories, a new 160-seat lecture hall, a new black box theater with 215 seats, new science labs, photography rooms, 12 study rooms, offices and a new cafeteria.
Woodbridge, Va. –– Though lobsters are not indigenous to the Potomac River some did wash up on the shores of Leesylvania State Park over the weekend.
Triangle, Va. –– Police are on the scene of a crash on Joplin Road near Interstate 95 in Triangle.
Initial reports indicate a pickup overturned along the road, and then righted itself, prompting police to temporarily closed that portion of the roadway.
Police say six buses were damaged in the incident – some had exterior lights broken and some were broken into and had radio equipment removed.
The damage to the buses is estimated to be about $7,000, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
