WOODBRIDGE, Va. — What’s the going rate to rent a parking space these days? At Virginia’s Railway Express’ Rippon station, it’s $42.10 per space.

The commuter railroad today extended a contract to keep 320 spaces at the popular commuter station for another three years, at a cost of $162,000. The additional spaces are located on land owned by the Kettler land development firm and are a temporary solution help to ease overcrowding at the station and are necessary until a permanent parking garage is built, states information provided by VRE.

Sexual Battery *ARREST – On January 14th, detectives from the Special Victim’s Bureau were able to identify the suspect involved in the sexual battery which was reported to have occurred at the Potomac Library located at 2201 Opitz Blvd in Woodbridge on January 11th. Detectives located the accused in the area of Featherstone Plz and, following the investigation, the accused was subsequently arrested.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Elections officials testified before members of congress Monday at a packed meeting in Woodbridge recalling voting problems at Prince William County’s River Oaks Voting Precinct.

Virginia transportation officials warned drivers today about three construction projects that could cause delays, including a full closure of a portion of the Capital Beltway, and about a change to an ongoing repair project on interstate 95.

Destruction to School Property, Firearms Violation near School – On January 9th at 9:01AM, police responded to the 1500 block of Constellation Way in Woodbridge (22191) for a destruction of property. A witness reported to police that sometime between 9:00PM and 10:00PM on January 8th he saw a group of males standing on the steps near the school. He saw a young male fire what appeared to be a handgun at Fred Lynn Middle School, located at 1650 Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge (22191.) Police searched the school and located a security light that appears to have been shot out, valued at around $500. There were no students at the school during the time of the incident and there were no injuries.

FROM POLICE REPORTS

Brandishing a Weapon on School Property – On January 7th at 11:45AM, police responded to Vaughn Elementary School located at 2200 York Dr in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate an altercation which took place on Friday, January 4th around 4:00PM. The investigation revealed that an 11 year old male student was involved in an altercation with another student, a 9 year old male. During the encounter, the 11 year old displayed a BB gun and pointed it towards the other student. The school had already been dismissed for the day; however the altercation did occur outdoors on school property. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the 11 year old student was charged.
