· The wonderful staff at Prince William Conservation Alliance has a Workday at Merrimac Farm scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 9am-12pm. The farm is located at 15014 Deepwood Lane, Nokesville 20181. Volunteers are needed for a morning of weeding, pruning, and watering plants to make sure the Wildlife Garden looks terrific for visitors, and they will also be tidying up and cleaning the Stone House. Good Morning – Comcast Cares Day is Saturday, April 21 from 7:30am-1pm at the Georgetown South Community in Manassas. This wonderful partnership with Leadership Prince William brings together hundreds of volunteers to do supper stuff throughout the community. Grab your friends, family and colleagues to join in the fun. Tasks for the day include mulching 45 playgrounds, planting the community garden and window boxes, painting and personalizing 30 picnic tables in the green space but most importantly putting house numbers on the rear of all 840 homes in the community for added security and safety. · Pattie Elementary School has just kicked off their Reading Mentor Program to give kids consistent, valuable reading time with a volunteer. In order to establish the relationship with this child, they are asking volunteers to sign up for a specific 30 minute time slot once a week for the rest of the school year. Volunteers needed to teach 4th grade children life skills to keep them safe alone while at home

In observance of Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, ACTS will hold a Memorial Vigil to remember those homeless who were lost this year, along with those who sought permanent housing. The vigil will be held December 21, 5:00pm at the ACTS Beverly Warren Shelter, 17866 Main Street, Dumfries 22026. All are welcome to attend; light refreshments will be served after the service. · The busy staff at the SERVE Family Shelter is still in search of volunteer groups who can provide a hot, nutritious meal to their residents over the holidays. Open meals still needing groups are: Dinner Dec. 31, Brunch & Dinner Jan. 1 and Dinner Jan. 2. Volunteers must be at least 16. Meals can be prepared either in the shelter’s kitchen or fixed off-site and transported to SERVE. It’s a great way to support families experiencing homelessness by providing the comfort and warmth of a home-cooked meal during the holidays!
