Youngkin celebrates new measures to support mental health services during Fauquier Health event

Insidenova.com: “Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced this week he has signed a series of bills aimed at strengthening insurance coverage for behavioral health services for Virginians, reducing the burden on law enforcement and enhancing the behavioral health workforce.”

“Speaking at Fauquier Health to a crowd of local law enforcement, state representatives, health care leaders and behavioral health care advocates from across the commonwealth, the governor said the new legislation is part of his “Right Help, Right Now” plan, which he unveiled in December.”

Virginia AG urges tougher rules on spam calls, texts

“Sleazy ‘lead generators’ try to trick people into consenting to receive spam calls or texts from hundreds of companies they’ve never heard of and never want to hear from. We are asking the FCC to toughen the rules on consent requirements so Virginians only hear from organizations they agree to,” said Attorney General Miyares.”

“The FCC is proposing to amend its rule concerning consent to close a so-called “lead generator loophole.” Lead generators are entities that collect personal information (like telephone numbers) from consumers and sell it to third parties, who then use that information to solicit consumers to purchase goods or services. As the attorneys general explain, “Telemarketers, voice service providers, and scammers need people to call (and/or text),” so lead generators have “proliferated into a billion-dollar industry.”

Plane crash remains headed to medical examiner office

“Virginia State Police returned to the plane crash site in Augusta County early Monday (June 5, 2023), along with an NTSB representative, to begin evidence collection and body recovery efforts. State police has been advised by the NTSB and FAA that a pilot and three passengers were on the privately-owned Cessna aircraft that crashed in a densely wooded, remote, mountainous area of Augusta County, near the Nelson County line. The scene is more than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway.”

“At 3:50 p.m. Sunday (June 4, 2023), the Virginia State Police was notified of a possible aircraft crash in the Staunton/Blue Ridge Parkway region. Search efforts by the Virginia State Police, Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta County Fire-Rescue immediately got underway by ground and air across the region. Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday (June 4, 2023), first responders were able to reach the crash site by foot. State police has suspended its search efforts. No survivors were located.”

“The Federal Aviation Administration says the Cessna Citation took off from Elizabethtown, Tennessee, on Sunday and was headed for Long Island’s MacArthur Airport. Inexplicably, the plane turned around over New York’s Long Island and flew a straight path down over D.C. before it crashed over mountainous terrain near Montebello, Virginia, around 3:30 p.m.”

Senate Democrats turn on Biden’s student loan forgiveness

Biden’s order would cancel up to $10,000 for qualifying borrowers and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. Biden ordered the debt cancellation via the Department of Education last year, but it is now under review by the U.S. Supreme Court after a legal challenge.

“The Congressional Joint Resolution of Disapproval passed Thursday and received Democratic support from Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana, as well as Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who now identifies as Independent. Two other Democrats, Sens. Mark Warner of Virginia and Michael Bennet of Colorado, did not vote.”

“Virginia Democrats quickly accused the governor of grandstanding in a “desperate search for national relevance” – using Virginians’ tax dollars for a “political stunt.” While Virginia Republicans praised the governor’s move in the “strongest possible terms”— instead criticizing President Biden’s administration.”

“Virginia Republicans applauded Youngkin’s decision to deploy national guardsmen to the southern border in response to the federal government’s “lack of action.” Del. Todd Gilbert, the House of Delegates speaker, underscored the fentanyl crisis in support of the deployment.”

Virginia sues Biden Administration over open border policies

Virginia Attorney General’s Office: Attorney General Jason Miyares joined an 18-state coalition suing the Biden Administration over its proposed new Circumvention of Lawful Pathways rule.”

“The federal government has characterized the new rule as a means for continuing to regulate immigration following the expiration of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Title 42 public health order. Title 42 previously granted authorities a greater ability to bar immigrants from crossing the border during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in reality, the new rule only worsens the problem by redefining previously illegal border crossings as “lawful pathways.”
