Call to Action: Prince William’s homeless need propane cans

z• Good morning – The 25th Project provides services to homeless individuals living in camps in several locations across our community. The have an urgent need for 20# propane cans so folks can keep warm this winter. Please drop off your donation on this Monday January 19th in the Kmart parking lot on Dale Blvd between 11am-2pm. Your donation will keep someone warm by Monday night. If you need other days/times please email Jay at: [email protected].

• The fabulous kids from the Joe 15 Team would love your help by donating blood to the American Red Cross on Saturday January 24th from 9am-2:30pm. To schedule your appointment please email Debbie at: [email protected] or call her at (703) 895-1606. As you recall, these kids do service projects throughout the year in memory of their friend Joe.

Would closing Prince William schools in zones mean fewer snow days?

David Kline, associate superintendent for Prince William schools, Lilly Jessie, Prince William School Board, and others spoke on a panel at Northern Virginia Community College.

It’s been a rough start to the New Year for the Prince William County Public School division.

On Jan. 6, it snowed heavily across portions of Prince William and Fairfax counties as a clipper system “over performed” and peppered frozen precipitation across the area, resulting in more snow than forecasters originally thought the storm would bring.

Blunt metal rod used in Manassas burglary

On January 13, two victims living in a Manassas apartment were assaulted using a blunt metal rod. The female suspect and her female friend were at the apartment hours earlier and returned with a group of male suspects.

The suspects then forced their way into the apartment, where they assaulted the victims, causing non-life threatening injuries, police said. Three suspects have been located and identified, the investigation is ongoing.

Stepfather stabbed to death, stepson charged

 On January 14, a 42-year-old man of Woodbridge was hospitalized and died after being stabbed in his living room. According to the report, the victim’s step son stabbed the man several times, while the mother of the suspect called police. The suspect’s brother tried to stop him and once police arrived to the scene, the two were fighting, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently arrested.

Routes 610, 17 & Stafford Courthouse all areas seen as bright spots for development

Stafford residents were clear: they want more high-end retail stores and restaurants in their county.

Stores like Macy’s, Jos A. Bank, L.L. Bean and restaurants like Maggiano’s Little Italy were just some of the names tossed out by residents. Those same residents said they commute to work for too long each weekday on Interstate 95 only to have to drive to places outside the county like Fredericksburg, Woodbridge and Tysons Corner to reach their favorite shopping destinations.
