According to Crawford, there’s a lack of real leadership on the board.

Seven hundred 9th and 10th grade students in Manassas Parks schools will now have access to an electronic tablet device for their schoolwork, as part of a partnership between the Virginia Department of Education and the school system.

“The program is being funded in part by the Virginia Department of Education – it’s an e-learning initiative grant that we applied for and received,” said Jennifer Braswell-Geller, Director of Special Programs for the Manassas Park school system.

King George’s landfill is for King George residents to use, and they want to keep it that way.

The county landfill is seeking funding from its county’s Board of Supervisors to hire two additional part-time employees. Part of their job duties will be to ensure Stafford residents don’t dump their trash illegally at King George’s landfill, according to landfill manager Jeff Jenkins.

Fire officials called the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to the scene of a HAZMAT this morning outside Manassas.

Prince William County authorities said a petroleum product was found in the Linden Lake storm water management pond, a tributary to Bull Run. Crews placed booms in the water to minimize the impact from the petroleum product.

Candice Bennett, a small business owner, has announced her candidacy for the Mt. Vernon District Supervisor seat. Bennett is hoping to take over the seat from the long time incumbent Gerry Hyland, who has held the office since 1988.

She received her Master’s degree in security policy studies from George Washington University. Bennett is a graduate of the Sorensen Campaign Training Program, Leadership Fairfax and the Tuck Executive Education program at Dartmouth, according to a release.
