NOVA Woodbridge begins HVAC dual enrollment for high school students

HVAC "AIR" Dual Enrollment Students at the NOVA-Woodbridge Campus.

The Natural Science and Mathematics Division at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge Campus has partnered with Prince William County Public Schools and SySTEMic Solutions to offer on-campus Air Conditioning and Refrigeration dual enrollment courses to Prince William County high school students.

The program began this semester with students from Gar-Field, Freedom, Potomac, Woodbridge, and PACE East high schools. Five days a week the students attend HVAC classes at the NOVA-Woodbridge Campus in the morning and return to their respective high schools in the afternoon to complete their high school coursework.

New high school to use old floor plan after School Board motion fails

School officials will move ahead with a plan to use a 20-year-old design for the county’s newest high school.

The “13th high school” will be built somewhere in western Prince William County — either at a proffered site at the yet-to-be-approved Stonehaven development or Rollins Ford Road on a site bequeathed to the county by its former owner to be used for parkland.

Macaron Tart opens to fanfare in Haymarket

On the evening of Thursday, November 5th the Dominion Valley Market Square shopping center welcomed in a new small business with the grand opening of Macaron Tart, a French Pasterisse that specializes in naturally made sweets and baking classes. Owner Elena Hocking welcomed Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Corey Stewart and Gainesville District Supervisor Pete Candland as well as business, government and civic leaders to join the Macaron Tart in celebrating small business at this community event.

The evening began with an array of baked goods, both sweet and savory, as those in attendance marveled at the creations made by French trained pastry Chef and owner Elena. She welcomed the crowd to the Macaron Tart as she spoke of how excited she was to bring a taste of Paris to Haymarket to share with the community.

Ashton Avenue reopens to traffic

Repairs to a culvert on Ashton Avenue are complete. The road reopened to traffic this afternoon, according to a press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Ashton Avenue near Manassas will stay closed for about week longer than planned.

Soon-to-open Grubbs Center educates residents on water sources, treatment

A new education center in Woodbridge tells the story of how Prince William County gets its water.

The Durward E. Grubbs Environmental Education Center will open this month. Located at the Edward Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility off Rippon Boulevard, the new center is part lab space and part museum.
