STAFFORD — (Press Release) The Treasurer’s Office will be closing early on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. for a computer systems upgrade.

The office will reopen for business on Monday, October 29, at 8:00 a.m. Citizens will still have access to search, view or pay their utilities bills and taxes online through the myStafford customer portal on Stafford’s website.

Northern Virginia elections officials are seeing a significant increase in the number of voters casting absentee ballots, a trend they expect to continue as the Nov. 6 midterm election draws closer.

Officials in Prince William and Stafford counties, along with Manassas city, will have extended hours for absentee voting in the final two weeks before next month’s local and federal election.

STAFFORD — (Press Release) Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a suspect in an online exchange gone wrong in the 200 block of Independence Drive. 

On Saturday, the Stafford Sheriff’s Office searching for the suspect behind robbery involving the social media app, Letgo. The victim told deputies he had arranged the sale of his headphones to a stranger through the Letgo app.

MANASSAS — Six city council candidates were given the opportunity to present their visions for Manassas at an open forum on Friday.

“Candidates Forum – Your City, Your Topics” was hosted by Historic Manassas, Inc., and moderated by Potomac Local publisher Uriah Kiser and Pastor Keith Savage of First Baptist Church. Twelve questions were gathered from online submissions, placed in sealed envelopes, and read to candidates for the first time at the forum.

NOKESVILLE – (Press Release) Hazelwood Drive between Carriage Ford Road and Fleetwood Drive will be closed to through traffic (weather permitting) from 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 to replace several stormwater pipes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Residents and businesses within the closure area, emergency vehicles and school buses will have access to the closed portion of Hazelwood Drive; however, they will not be able to go beyond the points of pipe replacement in either direction (see the attached map for the locations of the four pipes and the days crews are scheduled to work on them).

The Manassas City Council is made up of seven members, and this year, three seats are up for grabs. Michelle Davis-Younger is one of six looking to fill a seat.

Two Democrats — Ken Elston and Rex Parr — and three Republicans — Amalfi Arias, Marc Aveni and Theresa Coates Ellis — are also in the running.
