Both Democrats and Republicans demand Gov. Northam’s resignation

RICHMOND — Across the political spectrum, government officials and advocacy groups are calling for Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s resignation after media reports of a racist photo on his page in a college yearbook.

The photo, from Northam’s 1984 medical school yearbook, features two men — one dressed in blackface and the other in a Ku Klux Klan robe. Northam publicly apologized for the photo and the costumes that were “clearly racist and offensive.” But he did not mention which costume he was in.

Wittman, Beyer want feds to get backpay if government shuts down

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (Press Release) Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) and Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) today will introduce the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act, legislation to guarantee back pay to furloughed workers in the event of a government shutdown. Funding for the federal government expires at midnight tomorrow.

“We do not want a government shutdown, but if it comes our bill would protect federal workers from the worst of the consequences,” said Rep. Beyer. “This legislation is designed to shield civil servants, who need to support their families, from the disastrous effects of failure to agree on a measure to fund the government. We hope it will not be needed, but time is running out and the current outlook is not good.”

Prince William Forest Park hikes entrance fees

TRIANGLE (Press Release) – As part of its ongoing efforts to address aging park infrastructure and improve future visitor experiences, Prince William Forest Park will increase its per vehicle entrance fee to $15 on January 1, 2019. In 2020, the park will increase all entrance fees to meet nationwide standards.

“The new entrance fees will help us tackle backlogged maintenance and repair projects,” Superintendent Tanya Gossett said. “As our visitation grows, the wear and tear on the park’s infrastructure increase.
