Looking for something to do on Oct. 1? There’s a festival going on along the Potomac River.
On October 1, the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge will be the scene of the second annual Fall Festival sponsored by the Friends of the Potomac River Refuges. Special guests will include native plants, birds, butterflies and other wildlife. There is no admission charge and all activities are free!
Shannon Bream has made a successful TV career for her herself since she was Miss Virginia, working at WRC-TV in Washington and now FOX News Channel.
Though her job may take her to many spots around the nation to cover breaking news stories, Bream always comes back to Woodbridge to eat her favorite barbeque at Dixie Bones Barbeque on Occoquan Road, according to Northern Virginia Magazine.

The Potomac Communities could see more rain tonight, and a flash flood watches have been posted through the evening.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop mainly before 10 p.m., bringing with them additional rain that fill fall on already saturated ground. Between and tenth and a quarter inch of rain is expected to fall.
All Virginia Railway Express trains headed south on the Fredericksburg line are being stopped at Franconia due to high water.
The transit agency water is washing out track ballasts and the trains cannot go any further.
Fredericksburg, Va. — An earthquake that lasted 22 seconds, centered 38 miles away from Mary Washington University, damaged every building on campus.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee that impacted Louisiana and the Gulf Coast over the Labor Day holiday weekend now has Northern Virginia in its cross hairs, already prompting a flash flood watch for Prince William and Stafford counties in effect between now and Tuesday night.
The Washington Post has decided to close its suburban news bureaus, including one in Manassas long known as their Prince William bureau.
In an interview with Politico, the Post says the offices will close as leases begin to expire next year. Bureaus in Richmond, Va. and Annapolis, Md. will remain open.
