Sarvis Picks Up Endorsement from New Mexico Libertarian

Former New Mexico Governor and 2012 Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson endorsed Libertarian Robert Sarvis for governor of Virginia today.

In endorsing Sarvis, Governor Johnson remarked, “Robert Sarvis is the only candidate in this year’s most-watched and most negative election who offers a relentlessly positive libertarian vision for Virginia that’s both ‘Open-minded and Open for Business.’ Be Libertarian with me, Virginia, in 2013 and vote for Robert Sarvis for Governor.” Accepting Gov. Johnson’s endorsement, Sarvis stated: “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Gary Johnson. Gov. Johnson campaigned for the White House with a ‘fiscally responsible, socially accepting’ message that complements the Sarvis vision for a Virginia that’s ‘Open-minded and Open for Business.’

Rusted Valve Cause of Dale City Water Main Break

DALE CITY, Va. — Water has been restored to some 200 customers in Dale City who lost it Sunday night, and we now know more about the cause of the problem.

The break was caused by rusted bonnet bolts that, when working properly, provide a leak-proof enclosure for the water value on the main. The main that ruptured Sunday night on Catalpa Court in Dale City was 12-inches wide, said Virginia American Water spokeswoman Samantha Villegas.

IKEA Evacuated, Employees Get Free Lunch after Suspicious Package Found

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A suspicious package at IKEA Tuesday morning prompted customers to go elsewhere, and it led to a free lunch for employees.

A clothes hamper was found in the 2-story furniture store at Potomac Mills mall about 9:30 a.m. The store called police who spent the better portion of the next two hours investigating the hamper, which turned out to be harmless.

I-95 Bypass in Stafford Would End in Orange, Where Major Development Eyed

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Plans for a Fredericksburg bypass show drivers would be able to exit Interstate 95 in Stafford County, cross the Rappahannock River, and end up in Orange County.

Once off I-95, drivers would connect with the new bypass via U.S. 17 near the Celebrate Virginia complex in Stafford County, head south on a planned Berea Parkway, cross the Rappahannock into the Culpeper County, and then exit the bypass at a terminus near Va. 20 in Orange County.

I went into this movie with some trepidation knowing this was a product of a rookie screenwriter (Matt Whiteley) and novice director (Joshua Michael Stern of Swing Vote). And I underestimated them, just like so many people underestimated Steve Jobs.

Manassas Works to Fill Gov’t Jobs, City Unemployment Rate Down

MANASSAS, Va. — When compared to other areas in the U.S., employment in Manassas is booming.

Between 2010 and 2012, Manassas grew by roughly 2,000 people and the city government is growing right along with the population. Currently, there are 23 open positions in the city, everything from a dispatcher for the police department to a city manager to replace John Budesky who announced he was leaving the city in March. Interviews to fill his old seat will take place this week and next.

NVTA Funding Could Mean Wider U.S. 1 in Dumfries Finished 10 Years Ahead of Schedule

DUMFRIES, Va. — Dumfries officials want U.S. 1 — the heavily used 4-lane highway that bisects the town — to run on the straight and narrow.

A plan, long on the books to be completed by 2030, would widen U.S. 1 to six lanes so the north and south portions of the highway would run on the same span on Fraley Blvd. where the U.S. 1 north traffic runs now. It also means Main Street in front of Town Hall would no longer carry U.S. 1 south traffic.

Geyser Leaves Sinkhole, Closes Dale City Street

DALE CITY, Va. — Chunks of asphalt, rocks, mud, and other debris were left behind after a geyser erupted on Catalpa Court in Dale City.

A water main break Sunday night on the neighborhood street in the Catbrier Heights section near Dale City Volunteer Fire Department Station 10 on Dale Boulevard left at least 50 townhomes without water.
