Haymarket police chief re-suspended, council overrides mayor’s veto —If you’re keeping score at home, Haymarket Police Chief James E. Roop is back OFF the job, along with his deputy chief, Gregory A. Breeden, and Officer Jacob T. Davis, after all three were suspended last Monday night, then un-suspended on Thursday afternoon by Mayor David Leake. On Friday night, the town council overrode the mayor’s veto and re-suspended Roop, Breeden and Davis. So once again, the town of about 1,900 residents is left with three officers to stem the tide of crime in western Prince William County, at least for the next 60 days. [Washington Post]

It seems no matter what we do, snow wins! This latest snowfall, forecast to be 4-10 inches, was much closer to the minimum than the maximum. VDOT was prepared with over 4,000 vehicles to clear snow and treat the 17,000 miles of roads in Northern Virginia. VDOT provided us with a tool to track the snowplows and ascertain where the plows had been and would be going. You can search (after 2” of snow) by zip code or street or address.
That VDOT page has everything needed to declare war on snow. You can view the mobilization plan, road status and resources right on that page. There’s even a legend to help you identify the many graphics that determine road conditions. With VDOT boasting 4,000 pieces of equipment, we all feel confident that no matter what nature throws at us, we can handle it!
Two homes in the Sky Terrace subdivision in North Stafford were damaged overnight in a fire.
The blaze broke out at 2:52 a.m. at a home on Frazier Drive. The first fire crews on the scene saw flames on the first and second floors of the 2-story home. After everyone was evacuated, fire crews went inside to douse the blaze and brought it under control within 10 minutes, said Stafford fire and rescue Assistant Chief Mark Doyle.
