The snow that has accumulated overnight shows no sign of stopping, as the National Weather Service has extended the Winter Storm Warning for the region into 5 a.m. Friday.
With accumulations of 12-18 inches in many parts of Stafford County, conditions will continue to be dangerous on roads, and power outages are still expected.
More closings and cancellations as the storm continues throughout the region.

Good morning, the snow that was falling when you went to bed last night kept falling, and it piled up to nearly a foot in some places, if not more. It’s now to the point where we’re wondering if numbers really matter.
As snow falls throughout the region tonight, and into tomorrow, VDOT has issued a release, warning of current hazardous road conditions for drivers.
VDOT is continuing to plow and treat the roads as the snow progresses.
We are beginning to see closures roll in as the snow begins to fall in our area.
Prince William County Public Schools are closed Thursday. They posted the following statement:
A 15-year-old boy told police a friend came to his house to borrow his shoes. That friend wound up putting a gun in the boys face and robbing him.

With the possibility of fewer local and state school funding next year, public school students made an impassionate plea to Prince William County officials Tuesday night. They said their overcrowded classrooms have led to disruptions, fighting among students, and have negatively impacted the academic process.
The students, as well as members of the Prince William Federation of Teachers, urged the Board of Supervisors to fully fund the county’s public school system during the upcoming budget season. Students also said there too much focus has been placed on Virginia’s Standards of Learning exams.
Under new rules, parking lots at shopping centers will become greener with more trees and landscaping.
Parking lots at commercial buildings, shopping centers, and town home developments will now have to have 17% of their lots landscaped. With a unanimous vote from the Prince William County Board of Supervisors Tuesday night, the county’s Design and Construction Standards Manual’s section on landscaping and cover tree requirements was updated with the new requirement.
With weather forecasts projecting 6-10 inches of snow in the Stafford area, VDOT has mobilized and prepared to clear major roadways across the state.
More than 800 pieces of equipment are available in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to plow roads and apply sand and salt. Approximately 70 trucks are dedicated to clearing Interstate 95’s travel lanes and ramps.
