The Stafford Sheriff’s Office will hold a large gathering at the Stafford Marketplace off Va. 610 in North Stafford, from 6 to 9 p.m.

A local congressman says Washington’s police chief assures him authorities in that city won’t ticket drivers who drop off and pick up slugs on 14th Street.

Rep. Gerald E. “Gerry” Connolly, D-11th sent a letter to Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier earlier this month after reports surfaced  that police officers were ticketing drivers who were picking up slugs in order to use Interstate 395 and 95’s High Occupancy Vehicle lanes.  (more…)


MT. VERNON, Va.–A principal has apologized for placing a controversial ad inside of her high school’s yearbook.

Nardos King, who has been principal at Mt. Vernon High School in Fairfax County since 2006, placed an ad for her private “Body Magic” business, which she conducts outside of school, on a page of the 2010 yearbook, according to Fairfax school officials.


FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – Election season is coming early in portions of Fairfax and Prince William counties as Democratic Rep. Gerrald E. “Gerry” Connolly and his Republican opponent Keith Fimian both issued email statements to their campaign supporters.

Connolly says his campaign will “be sprinting towards the finish line” this summer while many other politicians who are running for reelection this fall are taking some time off. (more…)


Though power outages were rampant across Northern Virginia following Sunday afternoon’s severe thunderstorms, the Mt. Vernon outage was confined to an area off U.S. 1, on Buckman and Russell roads.

The storms that knocked out power in the area rolled through between 4 and 6 p.m. Sunday, but it wasn’t until 11:47 a.m. Monday that crews had the electricity back on to the affected 588 customers in Mt. Vernon, said Dominion Virginia Power spokeswoman Le Ha Anderson.
