Fairfax County, Va. –– Divers returned to the Occoquan River this morning for the fifth time this week to search for the body of a missing boater from Lorton.

Julia Shew, 64, went missing Saturday off Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax County. Officials say she was an avid boater who often rowed on the Occoquan.


Fairfax County, Va. –– Rescue crews are back in the Occoquan River this morning searching for a 65-year-old female boater who went missing yesterday afternoon.

Crews are now searching Fountain Head Regional Park, just up stream from where the woman went missing at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan River, said Fairfax County Fire and Rescue spokesman Capt. Willie Bailey.


Fairfax County, Va. –– Several Fairfax County Police officers were honored last week, including two who helped recover thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise, police said.

Officers Christopher Burbrink and Ryan Lazisky won Officer of the Year awards on Oct. 1, after they investigated a string of crimes that occurred around the Springfield Mall, at an Ulta cosmetics store – where $7,000 worth of merchandise was stolen – as well as a Home Depot store on Franconia Road, said Fairfax County police spokesman Richard Henry. Ft. Belvoir –– The credit union is once again open for business at Fort Belvoir Elementary School.

Belvoir Federal Credit Union reopened its student-run branch at the elementary school on the Army base, as it does every October, to provide students, faculty and staff the convenience of having a credit union on campus.
