There’s talk in West Virginia about reinstating the death penalty for a Lorton man accused of killing a mother and her child.
Authorities in that state charged last June charged 34-year-old Antonio “Tone” Prophet with first degree murder.
Police in the county have noticed an increase in summonses issued – 1,700 in the past five years – and say drivers are behaving dangerously near school buses. (more…)

A Fairfax County police officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly in the area of U.S. 1 and Pohick Road about 9 p.m. Sunday.
The car struck the rear of the officer’s police cruiser, which prompted the officer to pursue the driver, said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell. (more…)

Residents like the name Woodbridge, but are not too happy with a plan to call a portion of the magisterial district Marumsco. A shopping center and at least two neighborhoods in Woodbridge already bear the name.
Lorton, Va. — Police are looking for witnesses to the fatal crash that took the life of a 57-year-old woman Wednesday night.
The crash occurred at 9:10 p.m. in the area of Ox Road (Va. 123) and Henderson Road.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announces several overnight travel impacts scheduled on I-395 at I-495 stating on Friday night, Feb. 11 through Sunday morning, Feb. 20, as part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project. (more…)
